Our History

THE FYNE ALES BREWERY

The Fyne Ales brewery was set up in 2001 using the redundant milking parlour in the traditional farm buildings at Achadunan, Cairndow.

The first commercial brew was on St. Andrews day that year. The design for the brewery and the impact which the brewing makes on the locality are arranged to have as little environmental impact as possible.

Water is sourced from a burn above the brewery overlooking Glen Fyne and the head of Loch Fyne

Whenever we can we deliver our ales direct to the pub so that the casks spend as little time as possible travelling. Beer is delivered after suitable maturation allowing the beer to come into condition before it is despatched. However, having won the SIBA accolades, we have found demand coming from further afield and there are now a number of wholesalers distributing beer for us from the south coast of England to the north of Scotland.
Our aim is to produce a range of excellent beers for a discerning market - hence "uncommonly fine ales". The quality of the beer is of the utmost importance.

We were delighted that in October 2002, within nine months of starting production, we were awarded the Scottish regional gold awards from the SIBA (the Society of Independent Brewers) for two of our beers.

We went on to compete with these beers in the National Championship in 2003 against strong competition from the English regions, and proudly brought home a silver and bronze award.

In 2004 we again won a gold and silver award in the Scottish regional competition and have gone on to win similar awards in 2005 and 2006.

We have a hand-bottling plant at the brewery and are able to supply venues without a hand-pump facility and independent off-licences.

Our mail order business will despatch boxes of 12 bottles of Fyne Ale to any destination on the UK mainland and the west coast islands.
