Tasting Notes

Brownish almost black coloured IPA with a fruity citrus aroma. The citrus flavours combine with the toasted malt to give a delicious caramel fruitiness to the beer.

What makes it special?

Part of the Fyne Ales IPA project, a series of trials designed to explore the taste difference that comes from adding colour to traditional IPAs. When talking of the big hops they don’t get much bigger than Simcoe, a relatively new American hop. Davaar is bittered with Cascade hops, with lots of Simcoe hops on the end of the brew. Simcoe is used again in the dry hopping for aromatic purposes. Davaar black achieves its colour by adding a judicious amount of dark malt extract, which adds a lot of colour without many of the roast flavours. Taste with Davaar blonde to compare the effect of adding colour has on the flavour of beers . Davaar gets its name from a lighthouse located at the mouth of Campbeltown Bay.
