Tasting Notes

Clachan Dubh is a dark brown stout with an off white head. The aroma is of mellow roasted coffee with distinct bready notes and a slight acidity. On the palate there are zesty hop tones and a bitter roasted chocolate finish.

What makes it special?

Clachan Dubh is the first beer to be brewed by Gordon, who is the newest member of our brewing team, at Fyne Ales. A trans-Atlantic mix of hops is used to give the beer its tangy edge and the complex grist gives the beer its smooth body and roasted characters.

In order to build body in the beer Gordon experimented with some different water treatment options. Our water is very soft which is great for pale ales but can sometimes be a challenge with achieving good body in dark beers.

Clachan Dubh comes from the Gaelic for dark village.
