Welcome to the Fyne Ales blog—here you’ll find the latest insight into what’s going on with the Fyne Ales team in the brewery, on the farm or on the road.

Venison Meat Boxes – Available To Preorder Now!

For the very first time, we’re incredibly excited to offer meat from the Fyne Ales farm on our online shop!

Typically, when we have meat available it’s distributed to local restaurants and hotels, offered to our local community and those who visit the Brewery Shop & Tap – as that’s not really an option at the moment – we’re working with a expert Scottish butchery to offer venison meat boxes delivered straight to your door.

We are launching preorders today with four venison meat box options from our herd of spent-grain-fed red deer, each offering outstanding value with a range of premium cuts to explore. Plus, we’re offering a special early-bird discount of £5 per box for those who order before Sunday 12 May. Orders will be fulfilled from 20 May, shipping directly from our butchers to your door in time for the bank holiday weekend!

We’ve been farming deer in Glen Fyne for a few years now and have found it to be an incredibly rewarding and sustainable use of our land. With deer being indigenous to the area, and the availability of spent grain from the brewing process to help keep them fed, they’ve thrived in our quiet wee corner of the West Coast.

And it’s the spent grain diet that has helped give our venison its special flavour – our meat is slightly milder and sweeter, as well as being more tender and more consistent than stalked animals might produce. It still has some rich gamey-ness, but it’s never overpowering, making it more versatile for cooking at home. The meat is also very high in protein and low in fat and cholesterol, offering heaps of flavour with very little downside.

The other factor that makes our venison special is Stu MacLachlan, our farmer and stockman; who takes a huge amount of pride in the produce from his animals. Stu brought years of deer farming experience with him when he arrived at Glen Fyne in early 2018 and has overseen our herd as it’s grown – ensuring the animals live happy and stress-free lives, which really does make a difference to the flavour and quality of our meat.

“Red deer are a beautiful animal to farm, and obviously they are perfectly suited to the climate and ground in the glen,” Stu shares. “They’re curious, intelligent animals, so we make sure we keep them stimulated and give them plenty of space to roam – they absolutely love the grain from the brewery, so I know they live well and enjoy their time here.”

We’re considering this a pilot for hopefully more meat box offers in the coming months – as those who’ve tried it our meat in previous years will vouch, there’s something very special about the meat we produce in the Glen, so if you’re keen to help us try something new during these difficult times, you surely won’t be disappointed.
