4. Pouring Beer

  1. Ensure CO₂ regulator is fully closed – first pours should use pressure within mini-cask/keg first.
  2. Gently tilt lever handle to begin beer flow into glass.
  3. As flow slows, slowly turn CO₂ regulator to add pressure and increase flow.
  4. For mini-keg and mini-cask, first pour may be lively. For mini-cask first pour may be slightly hazy.
  5. Ensure the CO₂ regulator is closed after each pour to save excess CO₂ leaking.

FAQs

  • – How long does each CO₂ cartridge last?
  • – How long does beer stay fresh with tap inserted?
  • – Can the tap be used for both mini-cask and mini-keg?
  • – Can the tap be used for mini-casks or kegs from other breweries?
  • – How do I dispose of empty CO₂ cartridges?
  • – The regulator squeaks when I open it, is this normal?

– How long does each CO₂ cartridge last?
Each cartridge should be good for up to eight litres of beer (around 1.5 mini-casks or mini-kegs). When installed in the tap, ensure the regulator is closed when beer is not being poured and that the tap is not removed from the mini-cask/keg  – this will help prevent CO₂ leakage.

If you want to move the tap from one mini-cask/keg to another with a partially depleted cartridge installed, ensure the regulator is closed and take great care removing from the empty mini-cask/keg.

– How long does beer stay fresh with tap inserted?
In our testing, mini-cask beer has stayed fresh for two weeks with the tap inserted and constant pressure inside the vessel. The beer keeps perfectly fresh inside the mini-cask/keg, however if you’re leaving the beer without pouring for more than 24 hours, we recommend pouring away the first 100-200ml of beer before pouring your pint in order to flush any beer that may have been sitting in the tap/beer outlet pipe.

– Can the tap be used for both mini-cask and mini-keg?
Yes! The deluxe tap can be used for mini-cask and mini-kegs! Instructions for use are slightly different for each vessel and if you’re not sure which type you have check out our blog on mini-cask vs mini-keg.

– Can the tap be used for mini-casks or kegs from other breweries?
Yes! The deluxe tap can be used with all commercially available mini-casks and mini-kegs.

– How do I dispose of empty CO₂ cartridges?
Once empty CO₂ cartridges can be placed in your normal recycling. Do not dispose of full CO₂ cartridges.

– The regulator squeaks when I open it, is this normal?
Squeaking is caused by an excess of pressure in the mini-cask/keg. If it begins squeaking, pour more beer to relieve pressure andturn down the regulator.
