Introducing Home 3-Year Blend & Origins Brewing Autumn 2019 Collection

To say we’re excited about this would be an understatement – today we reveal Home 3-Year Blend, Scotland’s first blend of one, two and three year-old spontaneously fermented beers, the first in a new series of coolshipped beers in the Origins Brewing project, launching today as part of the Origins Brewing Autumn 2019 Collection.

Home 3-Year Blend combines beers brewed in 2015, 2016 and 2017 using Scottish malt and raw wheat, water from the hills adjacent to the brewery and a native microflora in our environment. Though inspired by Belgian lambic brewing traditions, Home 3-Year Blend is a celebration of our Glen Fyne home – a true expression of our farm brewery provenance.

When we first attempted a spontaneous brew in 2015 with our friends from Inver, we didn’t know whether our environment would be able to provide enough wild yeasts for fermentation to take place – but nearly four years and several succesful batches, we’re incredibly proud to present Home 3-Year Blend.

Over the past few years we discovered similar flavour notes emerging in the spontaneously fermented beers, notably a distinct stone-fruit expression in the foreground which is definitely apparent in Home 3-Year blend, as well as a dry, vinous finish with gentle acidity. It’s a delicate, poised profile with layers of flavour that gently reveal themselves with time and temperature.

Now, if that wasn’t enough, we’re also launching three more Origins Brewing beers today to round out the Autumn 2019 collection:

Beams –

Brewed in friendship with our friends from Duration Brewing in Summer 2018, Beams is a 5.7% blended Brettanomyces-forward rustic saison aged in American and French oak barrels. Juicy and tropical fruit notes lead into a rich and complex body with notes of leathery Brett and a finish with strong oak notes.

Expedition II –

A Nelson-Sauvin IPA rested in first-fill Chardonnay wine barrels for 12 months, blended with fresh kettle-soured wheat beer. Expedition II, at 6.9%, is the second in our series of old-world/new-world hybrid IPAs, showcasing strong vinous fruit and bergamot notes which lead into a crisp, dry and oaky finish.

Acres –

A 7% blend of Bretted saison, aged in American oak barrels and a red-wine barrel-finished sour ale, conditioned on Scottish raspberries. A lightly funky body gives way to a refreshing sour finish with a subtle wash of tart and juicy berries.

All four Origins Brewing beers are on sale from the Fyne Ales website and Brewery Tap now. Quantities are limited (especially of Home 3-Year Blend).
