Mini-Cask Club, our cask-at-home subscription service offers two types of membership – All Jarl, for those who want ten litres of our flagship beer, and Discovery, combining Jarl with a brand new beer every month for just £40. When we launched Mini-Cask Club in June 2020, we knew people would be excited about the prospect of 17+ pints of Jarl every four weeks but we figured folk might be apprehensive about trusting us to send them a brand new brew regularly.

We were wrong.

Writing this as we prepare to send out our November Mini-Cask Club boxes (there’s still time to sign up), over 85% of MCC members are subscribed to the Discovery plan, trusting us to deliver something awesome for them to enjoy – and so far it seems, we haven’t done badly.

In this blog we want to take a moment to celebrate the small-batch brews that Discovery members have been able to try before anyone else in the world (apart from our brewers). Obviously we’re brewing a bit less this year due to the pandemic, but that’s allowed us to really focus on brewing the best quality beers for our MCC members and they’ve responded with some awesome feedback – check out the recap of MCC beers so far below.

But first – if you’re not familiar with how Mini-Cask Club works, here’s the lowdown:

3. Pay £40 on 1st of the next month.
4. Get 10-litres of fresh cask beer delivered soon after.
5. Enjoy fresh cask beer at home.

Hopes & Fears – July 2020
We kicked off Mini-Cask Club in July with a banger of a brew – a 4.5% hazy session IPA with Citra, Calypso and Simcoe hops. The beer offered a soft and fruity profile with a hint of bitterness in the finish to leave you thirsty for more, with many members commenting how easy it was to get through the five litres:

Everyone Loves Strata – August 2020
In August, we dipped into our ever-popular single-hop session series to bring Everyone Loves to Discovery members and showcase the incredible Strata hops. We first brewed with the new hop variety for a single-hop IPA in Autumn 2019, so we knew the dank and resinous Strata could stand up on its own in a low-ABV (3.8%) but boy were we surprised just how well it worked – and so were our members!

Pebble Beach – September 2020
As summer faded into Autumn, we found ourselves longing for sunshine evenings on the beach, so for September’s Discovery brew we created Pebble Beach, a West Coast pale ale paying tribute to the stony shores of Loch Fyne, with a bold and balanced bitterness in the classic style and a tidy 4.7% ABV.

Patchwork Mosaic – October 2020
Our most recent Discovery members brew is still fresh in the memory (and still fresh in mini-cask for those who haven’t imbibed yet) – a single-hop hazy IPA showcasing the superstar Mosaic hops. All stone-fruit and tropical flavours, this was designed as a hybrid of our early-2020 hazy IPA Daydreamer and the incredibly popular low ABV Everyone Loves Mosaic – and the brewers nailed the execution.

Meridian – November 2020
Let’s wrap up with our next Mini-Cask Club release – Meridian, a 4.4% single-hop pale ale. Okay, so we haven’t got any feedback on this one yet, but we have tasted it out of tank today and OH BOY are Discovery members in for a treat. Meridian is all about subtlety and balance – it’s got all the fruitiness you could want, but it’s insanely drinkable. We’re super-excited to get it out to MCC members.
