Mini-Cask Club – Feb 2022: Double Discovery Special!

In a normal month Mini-Cask Club pairs up one brand-new beer with one of year-round classics – but February 2022 won’t be a normal month, no. February 2022 sees the return of the elusive DOUBLE DISCOVERY , bringing MCC members TWO new beers instead of one – introducing I Am A Mountain and I Am The Sea!

For only the second time ever, Mini-Cask Club members will be treated to a pair of new brews, based on the same recipe, with tweaks designed to create two different beers perfect for comparing and enjoying side by side. For our second Double Discovery outing, we’re brewing a pair of 4.4% pale ales featuring the same hops as a base, but dry-hopping differently to take the beers in different flavour directions.

  • – I Am A Mountain – 4.4% – Mountain Pale Ale, dry-hopped with Strata and Zappa.
  • – I Am The Sea – 4.4% – West Coast Pale Ale, dry-hopped with Cascade, Simcoe and Chinook.

Hopefully you’ll be familiar with West Coast pale ales – we’ve brewed plenty of them over the last few years and we love the style. I Am The Sea pays tribute to the first wave of American craft beers, the likes of Sierra Nevada Pale Ale, Stone IPA and Green Flash’s West Coast IPA that helped establish bold, hop-forward brews in the UK in the 2000s. I Am The Sea will feature the trademark flavour profile of the style – citrus zest, resinous pine and a clean, crisp finish with a snap of bitterness design to refresh.

Mountain pale ales are likely to be less familiar – I Am A Mountain is the first we’ve ever brewed! Mountain-style IPA and Pale Ales are a relatively new concept in craft beer – a hybrid of flavours combining West Coast zesty bitterness and East Coast juicy softness in a highly crushable easy-drinking middle ground style that showcases the best of both worlds.

“Doing these Double Discovery months with Mini-Cask Club is a really fun experience for our brew team – creating two distinct beers from the same base and showcasing the impact of different hops on style and flavour is something we don’t get to do often” shares Fyne Ales Head Brewer, Malcolm Downie. “This year’s Double Discovery has also allowed us to play around with a new style of beer for us – Mountain IPAs and pale ales are a bit of curiosity, but I’m confident we’ll get the balance between East and West Coast influences just right and the resulting beer should be amazing.”

I Am A Mountain and I Am The Sea will be sent to Mini-Cask Club members first in the second week of February! Mini-Cask Club members, along with ten-litres of cask beer each month receive:
