Introducing Glen Cowbell, our collaboration with Queer Brewing and our May Mini-Cask Club Discovery beer!

We’ve got a special treat for Mini-Cask Club members in May – our next Discovery beers is a collaboration with the wonderful Queer Brewing Project! Glen Cowbell is a 4.2% all-British pale ale with UK Cascade, Jester and Olicana hops.

Founded in 2019 by Lily Waite, Queer Brewing has made a huge impact in a few short years by working with breweries around the world to advocate for LGBTQ+ right, increase LGBTQ+ representation in the beer industry and raise money for LGBTQ+ charities. Fyne Ales and Lily go back a long way, and talks about a collaboration between our brewery and the project began back in 2020 – Glen Cowbell is a beer years in the making!

“What Lily has achieved with the Queer Brewing Project in just a few years is nothing short of extraordinary” explains Fyne Ales MD, Jamie Delap. “Her dedication and hard work has really started to help change the way people think about the craft beer industry in the UK – and the beers she and the team have created are delicious too – it’s an honour to be brewing with Queer Brewing on our next cask special.”

Glen Cowbell, with a name drawing inspiration from our farm brewery location and American country music legend Glen Campbell, is our latest all-British hopped brew, and our first to feature UK-grown Cascade hops. As our brew-team continue to be impressed by the latest UK harvests, we’re excited to continue experimenting with combinations and showcasing the exciting flavours of modern UK hops.

“There’s obviously an environmental benefit to brewing with UK grown hops, but even if you put that to one side, the quality of the crops we’ve had recently has been remarkable,” shares Head Brewer, Malcolm Downie. “Mini-Cask Club members will be familiar with Jester from last month’s single-hop brew, but the UK Cascade alongside it is really something special – the brew were all blown away when we got to sample them recently and Glen Cowbell should be super-tasty.”

As well as going to Mini-Cask Club members in May, Glen Cowbell will also be available to trade in 9G casks, with a percentage of proceeds from each cask and mini-cask being donated to LGBT Youth Scotland – supporting 13-25 year-olds across Scotland.

“We’d planned to brew something special for FyneFest in 2020, but for obvious reasons that had to be put on the back burner. We picked up the conversation again this year and we’re very pleased to have worked on a beer that will be perfectly for not only enjoying in the beautiful glen at the festival, but as a gorgeously easy-drinking pint in the pub, too,” shares Queer Brewing founder, Lily. “At Queer Brewing we’re increasingly interested in the wealth of amazing British hop varieties available to brewers in this country, and wanted to highlight some of our favourites in this collaboration. We can’t wait to be sat in the glen with so many friends, celebrating all things FyneFest, with pints of both Glen Cowbell and the iconic Jarl. Just make sure you bring your cowbell—everything always needs more cowbell.”

Paired up with our Champion Beer of Scotland, Jarl, May is sure to be a treat for Mini-Cask Club members. They’ll be the first to try our Glen Cowbell collab in the second week of May alongside their  mini-cask of Jarl.
