Mixtape IPA #6 – Playlist by Janet
Back in early 2020, our brewers launched the Mixtape IPA series, designed as an exploration of what a modern IPA brewed for cask should be. After a short hiatus, the series was revived in 2022 with a brand new base recipe upon which we’re exploring hop combinations and flavours to find the ultimate modern cask IPA.
Each quarter we release a new version, with an exciting new combination of hops – but we’ve decided this just isn’t enough! We wanted to pay homage to the humble mixtape, giving our team an opportunity to create a complimentary playlist to be played while you imbibe.
Our next edition of Mixtape is our annual FyneFest edition – and brewery linchpin Janet Riddoch has created our playlist. Many of you will have spoken with Janet over the years, as she supports both retail and trade sales, and helps keep the brewery moving!
So…. over to you Janet!
MIXTAPE IPA #6
The tracks I selected for Mixtape#6 were chosen with FyneFest in mind and also my time travelling to the brewery here in Argyll, in fact quite a few have a connection to working at Fyne Ales.
I picked ACDC as they were the first band I ever saw (Deeside Leisure Centre circa 1980/81), and Muse are the next band I am going to see live (Bellahouston in June) – I am not going to apologise for including four of their tracks, I love Muse and discovered them properly only last year – (I was bringing up young kids in the early noughties so that was my Hickory Dickory Dock phase of my music life).
Primal Scream and KLF were chosen because you can’t drive to a Scottish brewery without a tune from a couple of iconic Scottish bands.
During Covid and long days in the packing shed boxing up beer, ex head Brewer Malc was in charge of the tunes and a lot of metal and hard rock was played and a lot of swears were heard (from the songs not us!), so as homage to that time there is a Sixx AM track.
I got introduced to Chris Cornell by Stewart in the Tap and came upon Heartworm listening to Lauren Laverne on Radio 6 in the office.
For those of you accessing this playlist via You Tube Music you get the added bonus of some Cardiacs tracks – a band I adore from the 80/90s and were the last band I saw (Brixton Academy circa early 90s) before moving to Glasgow and getting caught up in the clubbing scene (who remembers the Volcano) – I feel Mixtape#7 coming upon me but I think it is Tom’s turn next.
