August is looking a little shifty – Hop Smuggler is creeping back out of the brewery to Mini-Cask Club members next month!

The brewers have chosen a fairly recent recipe for our next #FyneAles20 birthday celebration brew, with 2019’s Strata-hops showcase heading out to Discovery members in August.

Hop Smuggler was first brewed exactly two years ago with our friends from Minnesota, Little Thistle Brewing. While Strata hops have since taken over the craft beer world with their deep, dank West Coast flavour profile, back in 2019 Hop Smuggler was one of the UK’s first beers to feature the hops thanks to our American pals who were able to source some for our collab.

Of course, Mini-Cask Club members will be familiar with Strata hops from 2020’s single-hop Everyone Loves Strata, but here in Hop Smuggler, they’ll experience them in a whole new way as it teams up with Mosaic and Nelson Sauvin in a 4.8% pale ale.

“When we brewed the first batch of Jarl in 2010, I remember opening the bag of Citra hops and being blown away by the intensity of the incredible smell – I think Strata is the only other hop to have had a similar impact when we brewed Hop Smuggler in 2019 ,” shares Fyne Ales Head Brewer Malcolm Downie. “Our first two birthday rebrews have been quite deep dives into the archive, so it’s exciting to revisit a more recent brew – I can certainly remember how good the first batch of Hop Smuggler was and I’m confident this year’s will be just as good – no, even better. ”

Super-dank and piney, Strata gives hop smuggler a moreish character with an interplay of light citrus and tropical notes up top from the Mosaic and Nelson.

Sanda Blonde will be sent to Mini-Cask Club Discovery members first in the first week of August, with any remaining mini-casks available from the online shop for £24.50 later.
