Mini-Cask Club – July 2021: Sanda Blonde
Don’t call it a comeback – Sanda Blonde is returning for Mini-Cask Club members in July!
The second recipe to return from the archive as part of our #FyneAles20 birthday celebrations is our classic flagship IPA.
Sanda Blonde was first launched as a cask special in September 2012, alongside its partner beer Sanda Black, as part of our first IPA project exploring malt and hop combinations on different styles of hop-forward beers. The 5.5% Sandas were two of six cask IPAs named after Scottish lighthouses – all six were brewed in 2012 and were part of the reason we were named Brewery of The Year by The Beercast. Both Sandas went on to claim a place in our year-round beer line-up, with Sanda Blonde becoming the flagship of our keg range and both beers available in bottle until 2017. July’s Mini-Cask Club brew will be the first time Sanda Blonde has been available in cask for more than seven years.
“Sanda Blonde is still one of the beers we get asked about fairly regularly,” shares Fyne Ales Head Brewer Malcolm Downie. “I think for a lot of folk it was one of the first Fyne Ales beers they tried as we were brewing so much of it for keg and bottle until 2017. Part of the reason we want to bring it back is because the recipe is quite heavy on Nelson Sauvin hops and the recent fresh crop we received and used in Everyone Loves Nelson is really amazing – it should make for an extra special batch of Sanda Blonde and hopefully all the folk who’ve been missing it will get to try a spectacular version of it in cask.”
2021’s Sanda Blonde is staying true to the classic recipe – super-fresh Nelson Sauvin leads the hop charge backed by Citra for a punchy green-grape and citrus profile. The finish doesn’t hide its hint of bitterness – a pithy bite ensures a super-refreshing end to every mouthful.
Sanda Blonde will be sent to Mini-Cask Club Discovery members first in the first week of July, with any remaining mini-casks available from the online shop for £24.50 later.
