The year is 2012 and Jarl, our single-hop Citra superstar, is taking the beer world by storm. FyneFest 2012 is on the horizon and the brewers are scratching their heads for a festival special that can match the whirlwind success of our nordic-named flagship session ale. Enter RUNE, a 3.5% light ale liberally hopped with Simcoe that would go on to steal the show at our annual beer, food and music event and making a lasting impression over the following three years as a regular brew until 2015.

And now, it’s back as our Mini-Cask Club Discovery beer for June 2021!

MINI-CASK CLUB – SIGN-UP

As we head towards our 20th birthday in November 2021, our brew team will be revisiting some of their favourite recipes from yesteryear, with the return of RUNE after six long years away the first of many returning brews in 2021 as part of our #FyneAles20 celebrations.

“When we decided to dip into the back catalogue of recipes to celebrate the anniversary, RUNE was pretty much at the top of everyone’s list,” explains Fyne Ales Head Brewer Malcolm Downie. “Like Jarl, it was brewed as a light beer that you could have plenty of pints of at a beer festival or in a pub garden so as we head back into warmer weather and folks getting together in gardens and outside pubs, it’s the perfect session beer. I can’t wait to try it after six years!”

For the most part, the 2021 edition of RUNE stays true to it’s classic recipe – British Challenger provides the base for the Simcoe to showcase its balanced blend of pithy citrus and earthy pine flavours, with a slight update to the malt bill introducing oats in place of wheat for a bit more body.

RUNE will be sent to Mini-Cask Club Discovery members first in the first week of June, with remaining mini-casks available from the online shop for £24.50 later. If you want to try the returning RUNE before anyone else and save over 20% vs online shop orders, don’t be a fool and make sure you’re signed up before 1st June!
