Music and beer are two of the key components of our annual summer festival, so we had to brew a special version of our music-centre cask IPA series to mark the return of FyneFest after three long years. The challenge for the brew team – put together a tracklist of hops to that would make everyone want to sing with joy.

With that in mind, FyneFest Mixtape layers the stone-fruit flavours of Mosaic hops with the free-spirited Zappa, a modern variety originally from New Mexico that’s known for complex flavours of passionfruit, mint, spice, tropical fruits, and fruity pebbles… apparently. Think of it as an independent spirit, cutting shapes on the dancefloor with moves from latin, ballroom, modern dance and freeform jazz.

“Zappa is an incredible hop – it’s completely unique and brimming with flavour,” shares Fyne Ales Head Brewer, Malcolm Downie. “FyneFest is a party and when you think about capturing that in a beer, Zappa was our number one choice – it’s the life and soul of the party when it comes to modern hops.”

FyneFest Mixtape will debut at this year’s FyneFest festival, but for those who can’t make it to Glen Fyne for the weekend, Mini-Cask Club members will be the first to enjoy it at home in early June and it’ll be paired up with our year-round thirst-quenching pale ale – Avalanche!
