The time has come to celebrate Fyne Ales 20th birthday with an exciting new cask special – introducing Foundations, a modern British IPA that will be available to Mini-Cask Club members before anyone else this November!

Foundations is design both as a celebration of where we come from as a brewery and where we are now – a thoroughly modern, unfined, cask IPA brewed using only British hops – specifically Olicana, Jester and Opus.

All three hops are recent graduates from the Charles Faram Hop Development Programme, and all represent the significant steps forward taken by UK hop breeders in the last twenty years, with new varieties offering bigger, bolder, fruit-forward flavours – perfect for our 5.1% celebrating the best of the UK cask brewing tradition in our 20th birthday brew.

“When our brewery was founded in 2001, we wanted to embrace the traditions of UK cask ale brewing while embracing the ever-changing beer scene in Scotland and beyond” shares Fyne Ales MD, Jamie Delap. “We’ve always strived to produce the best examples of modern British brewing with our small-batch cask specials and Foundations is a fantastic example of that – a true celebration of what’s possible using only UK ingredients in a format that’s so important to our beer culture.”

Foundations’ three-hop mix was chosen by Head Brewer, Malcolm Downie, to give balanced, fruity citrus flavours, with Olicana and Jester both giving grapefruit notes, and Opus a hint of orange zest, with layers of mellow tropical fruit, berries and some floral flavours giving depth.

“Thinking back to when we first started brewing, I don’t think I could have imagined this calibre of hops coming out of the UK,” adds Malc. “I think a lot of drinkers will be surprised when they try Foundations – it’s got a huge depth of flavour that a lot of folk probably wouldn’t expect from a beer using only British hops.”

Foundations will be sent to Mini-Cask Club Discovery members first in the second week of November alongside our flagship session blonde, Jarl! Mini-Cask Club members, along with ten-litres of cask beer each month receive:
